Heather Lynn Smith

Musical Director
Harmony will forever be the power that holds Heather Lynn Smith captive to music; it is this love of harmony which, having gripped her as a young child, has fueled her passion for music to this day. After undergraduate studies at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY and eleven years teaching Music for Young Children©, she recently completed her Masters in Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Ottawa. She continues to enjoy working with musicians of all ages, adding in 2019 the joy of directing the Nepean Songsters seniors’ choir, performing with La Chapelle de Quebec, and performing with the Ottawa based a capella octet, OttaVoci. She has been thrilled in her many years as a member of the Ottawa Bach Choir to perform in spectacular venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, Bach’s Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Notre-Dame de Paris, St Paul’s Cathedral in London, and the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts.

The Nepean Songsters are happy to announce that rehearsals are starting again on Thursdays from 10:00 AM - noon in the open air at Knox United Church at 25 Gibbard Ave, Nepean (weather permitting). New members are welcome to join us.

Our rehearsals will again be under the direction of Heather Lynn Smith.

The choir will let organisations know when we will be available to entertain you again when the time comes.

Founded in 1993, Nepean Songsters are known around the Ottawa area for their entertaining choral performances at various retirement residences, nursing homes and special events. Nepean Songsters are presently led by Musical Director Heather Lynn Smith and Accompanist Devon Wastle-Thivierge.

About Us

The objectives of Nepean Songsters are to enjoy choral singing, make new friends and participate in community sing-outs and the choir’s annual concert in November.

The choir has a membership of 70 although attendance varies when snowbirds go south or some head to cottage country in early spring. This is a choir of both male and female voices, some music we sing in parts and others in unison.

Many of our members have and do sing in other choirs, some as soloists. We all love to sing!! We all know its good exercise! We share a lot of laughs! We enjoy warm friendships.

At Seniors' residences and nursing homes, we enjoy the camaraderie and interaction with the audiences during our Sing-Outs. They are encouraged to join in and it becomes a real songfest!

You are invited to join us on any Thursday morning, for practice. The is no audition and no previous experience is necessary. You don't have to know how to read music.

There is a membership fee of $100.00 due in September.

We promise a warm welcome!
